The first meeting for the SQCHA was held on 20 December 1977 at Ipswich Showgrounds in the Coca Cola rooms.
There were 35 members in attendance. The name for the club was proposed by Gill Sawrey. With a total of thirteen arenas for the use of the club.

The first official day was 2 April 1978 and was held at Bangtail. Approximately 40 cutters attended this first official day.
The events were $5 to enter and $5 cattle hire, except for the Open, which was $10 entry and Youth $2,
with no cattle hire for the Youth event.

Forty years on the South Queensland Cutting Horse Association is one of the most successful and professional clubs in
Australia. It holds 5 shows per year attracting betwwen 200 and 400 entries per show. In the past couple of years the club has ensued that their shows are run with generous amounts of prizemoney on offer. Because of this it is now possible that cutting enthusiasts in the Southern part of Queensland and Northern part of New South Wales can be competitive for the end of year NCHA national titles without having to travel excessive amounts.

Working on the concept of having sub comittees for every show, it is now possible for anyone in the South Queensland area to hold a show in their own back yard. If you have access to at least 600 head of cattle and an arena you can hold a show under the guidance of the SQCHA committee.
